*Submit Discussion into D2L
We are all aware of WordPress Plugins at this point in class, but how about Woocommerce specific plugins… Do a bit of research on Google, and share 2 links to at least 2 different Woocommerce related plugins that you find would be valuable to you or any future clients website…
Assignment 6 - Continuing Woocommerce & Testing Accounts & Orders
*Submit Assignment into D2L
This week we will be diving right back into our Woocommerce websites & preparing even more for when we would actually launch this as a live website… We really need to know all of the basic ins & outs of Woocommerce.
Step 1: Create a quick new logo for your board game shop!
-Either make your own from scratch, or easily start here with this tool called Canva and change the text & colors on any logo template: https://www.canva.com/create/logos/
-Don’t forget, you can even use Transparency for the background of the logo
-Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/z8uZeY6R
-When finished, download the image to your desktop as a PNG (especially if you have a transparent background it will look super nice on the website), and then add it to your website!
Step 2: Create the following Coupon Codes (Learned in previous Week 3 Lesson)
-FREESHIPPING (Only Free Shipping)
-SAVE25 (25% Off)
-FREESHIP5 ($5 Off plus Free Shipping)
-TESTORDER (100% Off plus Free Shipping, you may also have a FREEORDER coupon as well from our previous lesson please keep this one in there as well)
-TESTORDERNEWUSER (100% Off plus Free Shipping, however only allow email address [email protected] to be used, and limit it to being used only 1 time!)
Step 3: Review Email Notifications (Learned in previous Week 3 Lesson)
Go into the follow emails under Woocommerce > Settings > Emails and make the following changes:
-Disable the email for Cancelled order
-Disable the email for Failed order
-Remove the text Congratulations on the sale. on the New order email.
-Make sure the From Name under the list of all emails say I’m Bored! Board Game Shop
-Also change the From Address to [email protected] so that it is implying that no one will receive the email when replying (This is very common!).
-Change the Header image to your new logo as well! (You may need to go into the Media Library to find your image and copy the image URL)
-In the Footer text area, remove Built with {WooCommerce} so we can hide how the website is built.
-Feel free to change the email colors as well!
-Click on the Click here to preview your email template to see how your emails will look.
Step 4: Test Orders! (Learned in new Week 4 Lesson)
-OPTIONAL BUT HELPFUL: Install the Email Log plugin on your website like in the lesson video… This will allow us to see ALL emails that WordPress sends in the future… https://wordpress.org/plugins/email-log/
-Submit an order with one single product in the cart and use code TESTORDER.
-Submit an order with three products in the cart and use code TESTORDER.
-Submit an order with all of your product in the cart and use code TESTORDER.
Step 5: Experiencing What a Customer Sees (Learned in new Week 4 Lesson)
Exploring the My Account Area, and adding Navigation Links to create quick shortcuts for customers.
-Confirm account creation settings under Woocommerce > Settings > Accounts & Privacy and make sure Allow customers to create an account during checkout is checked.
-Open up a different browser where you are not logged in… This will give us the experience of how a new customer will see the website…
-Submit an order with one single product in the cart and use code TESTORDERNEWUSER however you must use the email address [email protected] for the code to actually work. This will also create our new account.
-OPTIONAL BUT HELPFUL: Go back to your other browser, and go into Appearance > Menus… Please add links just like in our Lesson Video under the My Account menu item so they show up in a drop down menu on your site… This makes the User Experience just a little bit better even with little shortcuts like these.
Step 6: Exploring Order Statuses, Pending Payments, Editing Orders, and Refunding Orders.
-Change the order with one item to Completed status.
-The order that has 3 items, the customer wants to add one more item to the order… Change the order status back to Pending Payment and then add a new line item to the order for one more item of your choice. Change the order status to Completed after adding the additional item.
-The order with all items purchased, they are now returning half of the items they purchased… You will need refund half of all of the items… To do this, you will need to set the quantity for each item that they are returning. Pick out any items that add up to half of the entire order and complete the refund for the customer.
-OPTIONAL BUT HELPFUL:
The order placed with the email [email protected], please open this order and leave a note saying Thank you so much for your order! You can expect it by the end of the week. and then open the Email Log area for the left side menu of WordPress and you can then see the email that the [email protected] customer would have received! Pretty cool way to easily communicate with customers!
-OPTIONAL BUT HELPFUL:
Explore adding a Best Sellers and On Sale area into your Woocommerce store, either on the home page or even in their own independent pages like the lesson video went over towards the end… Here is the link to Built in Woocommerce Shortcodes: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-shortcodes/
This assignment is DONE! Solid work… All of these tasks are very common for E-Commerce websites, completing this assignment is a huge accomplishment in understanding all of this for any potential client down the road… And yes, you now have better odds of getting hired to help!
Submit into D2L when complete!
